Board of directors

Tim Held

Tim brings more than 38 years of engineering and technical leadership experience in space craft propulsion and complex space systems. His propulsion expertise spans the design, analysis, development, integration, and testing of systems supporting the Space Shuttle, multiple interplanetary missions, the Orion spacecraft, commercial communications satellites, and strategic national-security programs. He also contributed to the Space Shuttle Challenger return-to-flight investigation.

Tim's carrer culminated in senior engineering leadership as Director of Engineering at Lockheed Martin, followed by eight years at Ball Aerospace (now BAE Systems) as Chief Engineer and Technical Fellow, providing technical leadership and independent expertise on some of the industry's most challenging space-system programs.

In parallel with his aerospace career, Tim served 24 years in U.S Navy Intelligence as a reserve officer, commanding intelligence units and retiring at the rank of Captain (O-6). This experience provides him with a distinctive understanding of national security missions, strategic assets, and the intelligence data that supports them.

Tim has also served for nine years on the Mechanical Engineering Advisory Board at Colorado State University, helping strengthen the connection between engineering education and the evolving needs of the aerospace industry.

Roger McNamara

Roger McNamara's notable contributions to the aerospace industry and communicty over his 46-year career include early research into and characterization of the hazards of orbital debris to space vehicles and operations, and potential mitigation strategies; improvements in space vehicle design and development, for both manned and unmanned systems; and most significantly, leadership in advancing technological innovation for the new era of human deep space exploration.

He started his career as a mass properties and trajectory analyst at Martin Marietta for the NASA Space Shuttle Mission Integration Support Contract. Subsequently, he supported expendable launch vehicles including Titan II, Commercial Titan, Titan IV, and the Athena Launch Vehicles. Dr. Macnamara has also supported two Ground Missle Defense programs, servcing as Program Manager for both the High-Performance Boost Vehicle (HPBV) Interceptor and the Boost Vehicle Plus (BV+) Interceptor programs.

Dr. McNamara’s leadership of the historic NASA Orion Exploration Flight Test-1 successful mission was a critical step in NASA’s long-range plan to enable human exploration of deep space. The success of the EFT-1 flight permitted the Orion program to validate several new

technology developments and applications for both design and production (separation mechanisms, heat shield material, Van Allen Belt radiation environment, software innovations,

and the Orion Test Lab simulation environment).

Dr. McNamara’s early research into space debris generation and the associated long-term effects in the geosynchronous region has helped to heighten the awareness and associated concerns of the hazards associated with space debris for Geosynchronous Orbit (GEO)

satellites. Dr. McNamara’s research has helped to lead both the US and European aerospace communities to evaluate on orbit refueling, re-orbiting and de-orbiting at end of life, and using debris storage orbits.

He has received numerous awards including Lockheed Martin’s” NOVA Award” and both NASA’s “Exceptional Public Service” and “Outstanding Public Service” Awards, as well as authoring and co-authoring numerous technical papers.

An AIAA Fellow, he has held multiple Regional and National positions earning numerous awards, and has supported aerospace education through lectures and research at the University of Colorado.

Dr. McNamara received his Bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, and his Masters and Doctorate Degrees in Aerospace Engineering Sciences from the University of Colorado.
